SALISBURY STREET
Written by John Williamson

Now's not the time for wailin'
While there's water in the river
We'll all lay down and cry when it's gone
I'll be a jackass and laugh at every sunrise
Celebrate the day when it's born

And we'll cruise one more time down the river
While our hearts overflow with joy
And we'll reminisce our days down Salisbury Street
Salisbury Street, Salisbury Street
Yeah we'll cruise one more time down the Murray
Don't wave the river gums goodbye
Just thank 'em for the shade and the stories
Tomorrow there'll be time to cry

So untie the ropes my darlin's
There's broken cloud today
And that lucky 'ole' will paint those billows blush
Don't wanna miss the sundown shining on the water
Chasing sneaky shadows through the bush

The Cancer Council - Australia
JOHN WILLIAMSON SUPPORTS DAFFODIL DAY

Daffodils will be in full bloom on Daffodil Day, Friday 23 August providing hope to the nearly one in three Australians who will be affected by cancer. Those who are not directly affected by the disease will know someone who is. Australian singer/songwriter John Williamson is one for these people.

Following the loss of his younger brother, Robin to cancer in 1999, John Williamson has committed himself to assisting The Cancer Council Australia raise additional funds for Daffodil Day. $1 from each sale of his new single, 'Salisbury Street', written in memory of his brother, will be donated to the cause by John's record company, EMI Music Australia.

John Williamson will assist with a public-awareness campaign for Daffodil Day to help spread the message of hope through his song 'Salisbury Street'.

"When my brother, Robin, found a lump under his arm around Christmas 1998, he put off going to the doctor assuming he had a poisoned gland. Six months later he was gone," John says.

"During the six months after diagnosis he remained outwardly positive and would not accept sadness around him. Going up the Murray River on the last day that I saw him, words flooded into my heart for my brother and these became the basis for my song, 'Salisbury Street'."

As the largest national cancer awareness day, Daffodil Day hopes to raise $8.7 million this year. Australians will be prompted to purchase fresh daffodils or event-related merchandise either in memory of a loved one, to celebrate a cancer survivor or for themselves in the hope of helping create a cancer-free future.
