"It was the terrible state of the Hawkesbury River near Sydney that inspired this song. At the time there was very little being done to stop household sewage and industrial waste being spewed into this magnificent river. I don't know whether things have really changed.

Today this song can apply to most of our rivers. They have all been used and abused.
